African Girls Can has made one-time investments in our Partner School, St. Katherine (Lira, Uganda), that benefit the entire school community. We want to make as broad an impact as possible.
At the height of the pandemic, AGC donated over $1,300 to help St. Katherine expand its internet capability. This enabled the school to broadcast online classes to widely scattered students stuck at home. AGC also supplied tablets and solar chargers to each of our program participants so they could try to keep up with their studies.
St. Katherine has expanded its offerings of vocational classes in order to equip students with income earning skills. To support this effort, AGC bought three sewing machines to augment the Design and Textiles course.
As schools in Uganda reopened after the longest pandemic shut down in the world, AGC supplied a handwashing station to St. Katherine, as well as a large quantity of face masks.
In perhaps the organization’s broadest outreach effort, AGC purchased air time for a series of six radio talk shows (broadcast every other week from July-September, 2020). The topics focused on life skills and resilience and were heard throughout Northern Uganda. Eight of our students were excited to share their voices on the radio.
